SAJF Grant Application and Guidelines

 

I  Funding Priorities / Eligibility Requirements

  • Organizations must be tax-exempt under Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3)

  • Grant applicants may request up to a maximum of $20,000

  • Organizations must have a locally independent chapter

  • Grants must be used to support specific projects that will benefit economically, emotionally, and/or physically disadvantaged individuals

  • Grants must be used to support projects in Bexar or contiguous counties (Kendall, Comal, Guadalupe, Wilson, Atascosa, Medina, Bandera)

  • Grants are not provided to fund Individuals, churches, public or private schools, private foundations, or National organizations without a locally independently chapter

  • Funding should NOT be requested for research, salaries or wage compensation and benefits (except wage compensation for implementation of specific project), administrative expenses, training and consulting, travel expenses, political, capital or religious campaigns, fundraising expenses (purchase of tables, tickets or advertisements), general operating expenses, endowments, debt reduction, acquisition or construction of buildings, facility maintenance, or purchase of vehicles

 

 

II  Grant Application Submission Requirements

Grant Applications must be:

  • Submitted using the 2023-2024 SAJF grant application

  • Emailed to grants@sajuniorforum.org

  • Received by November 1, 2023

  • Inclusive of subject line of the email reading:  SAJF Grant Application - name of organization

  • Inclusive of all supporting documentation.  Applications must include a detailed project budget to be considered for review

  • Authorized signature and date (electronic signature accepted)

  • Submitted in 1 PDF document

  • Inclusive of PDF document that reads in the following order:  Grant Application, Supporting Documentation (order of documents specified below)

  • Limited in file size to less than 30 MB

  • Applications will not be accepted by courier requiring signature or by mail

  • Applications cannot be accepted on google drive

 

Supporting Documentation

Grant Applications must include the following supporting documentation uploaded in the following order: 

  • Project Budget

  • General Operating Budget

  • IRS letter ruling tax exempt status under Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3)

  • Certificate of General Liability Insurance

  • Most recent IRS Form 990 filing including Section A or financial statements for past 2 fiscal years

  • List of Officers and Board of Directors

  • Additional supporting documentation

 

 

III  Evaluation

Grant applications are reviewed and selected by the San Antonio Junior Forum Grants Committee and approved by the SAJF Board and General membership.

If the proposal is within the guidelines and interests as stated above and the applying organization has met SAJF compliance regulations, the following additional factors are taken into consideration:

  • Project’s ability to serve an adequate number of individuals

  • Project’s potential for success

  • Project’s originality

  • Project’s ability to address a critical need in the community

  • Project’s ability to improve the quality of life for individuals in the community

  • Ratio of cost per person served to dollars requested

IV  Compliance Regulations

Organizations are required to provide SAJF VP Grants:

  • Proof that funds granted have been used for the purposes for which they were received within 12 months of the grant award in the form of receipts for purchases 

  • Proof of recognition of grant in public relations and marketing programs within 2 months of the grant award in the form of photos, postings to Facebook or Instagram, and/or copies of Newsletter or Annual Report recognition

 

V  Tax Year and Anticipated Grant Funding

  • San Antonio Junior Forum's fiscal year is June 1st - May 31st.  The total amount granted in a year is contingent on the San Antonio Junior Forum budget for grants

  • The number of projects and nonprofits funded will depend on the quality and quantity of grant applications reviewed in a grant period

  • SAJF gives preference to projects that best fit our grant criteria which are responsive to immediate critical community needs
