History of Grant Giving

San Antonio Junior Forum is proud to have awarded over $1,578,300.48 in grants to worthy non-profit organizations in the San Antonio area since 1961.

In 2023-2024, SAJF received requests from 104 nonprofit organizations with requests totaling $1,420,392.21.

$75,000 will be distributed to 13 nonprofit organizations.

PROJECTS FUNDED IN 2023-2024
  • Aid the Silent – “Deaf Resources” - $13,750 - 5 hours of audiology services offered in-house by pediatric educational audiologist at $55/hour. $275/child would pay for custom ear mold impressions, fitting, and programming of hearing aids for 50 children
  • Center for Refugee Services – “SIDS Prevention in Infants of Refugee Families” – $5,100 - 85 PackNPlays and fitted sheets at $60.00 each playpen for 85 infants at risk of SIDs due to communal sleeping practice
  • disABILITYsa – “Portable Sensory Comfort Kits Project” - $392.07 – 75 noise-cancelling headsets ($4.99 each) for loan to individuals attending community events who experience noise sensitivities ($374.25). 1 bulk bag of 12 tube light up fidgets sensory/distraction tools for use at nighttime events ($15.99). 1 bulk bag of 12 stress relief noodles ($1.97) Remainder of funds ($1.83) to be used at the discretion of the nonprofit
  • Friends of Santa Rosa Foundation – “Mammograms for Underserved Women” -  $9,850 – 50 free 3D screening mammograms ($197 each) provided in Mobile Mammography Unit to uninsured women living below the poverty line by a team of 5 women (2 mammography technicians, MMU driver/coordinator, MMU Breast Health Patient Navigator and Director of Radiology)
  • Guadalupe Community Center – “Empowering Minds: Math and Literacy Enrichment Camps” -  $10,200 to purchase learning math/literacy software for use by 35 children K-12th grade attending after school programs year round.  An additional 200 children who attend holiday camps will also benefit.  Children attend schools in San Antonio, Harlandale,  and Edgewood Independent School Districts
  • House of Neighborly Service – “Westside Food Pantry for Underserved Children and Seniors” - $5,000 – “Arroz Con Pollo” (Chicken with Rice) meal packages for seniors and children enrolled at HNS provided onsite, through curbside pick-up or delivered to those residing in 78207 zip code as well as through their Food Pantry Program on an emergency basis.  $16/meal provides two chicken and 2 rice boxes. Chicken box ($5) and rice box ($3). If each client is given 2 chicken and 2 rice boxes, 312.5 individuals can be served
  • Magdalena Ministries, Inc. – “Computing for Academics” - $6,939.36 – (4) Dell OptiPlex All-in-One Plus 7410 desktop computers with built in monitor with camera, wireless keyboard, mouse and preloaded with the latest Windows software.  Used by 15 mothers a year sheltering at MM to work on and store academic school work and access internet for needs supporting their families such as online college classes, online parenting classes, and helping children with schoolwork
  • Magik Children’s Theatre of SA – “Educational Residencies” - $2,562.05 – supplies needed by trained teaching artists to provide creative drama workshops on site at Haven for Hope, Catholic Charities and Cyndi Taylor Krier Juvenile Treatment Center.  Trauma-informed creative drama education will benefit 350 children
  • National Society to Prevent Blindness – “Star Pupils Children’s Vision Screening and Early Detection Program” -  $5,000 – (30) Vision screening toolkits ($200 each) to include 2 Texas state-approved vision charts, plastic eye occludes, eye health and safety educational brochures, and materials to conduct 1,250 in-person children’s vision screenings and train 30 new certified vision screeners
  • Roy Maas Youth Alternatives – “Salad, spice and everything nice” - $5,706.52 – Salad bar and assorted kitchen appliances - Avantco 60% Stainless Steel Refrigerated Salad Bar/Cold Food Table with Sneeze Guard , Pan Cover and Tray Slide with pan cover ($4,509.76) for use at Meadowland campus. Miscellaneous kitchen appliances for both Meadowland campus and Bridge Emergency Shelter - 12 piece pots and pans, (2) 18 piece knife sets, storage containers, toaster, immersion blender, metal whisk set, metal cooking spoons, serving spoons, silicone spatulas, metal pans for refrigerated salad bar, fruit and vegetable choppers, Moss and Stone counter mixer and electric graters ($1,196.76).  Serve 45 residential foster care children and 20 staff per day
  • Sleep in Heavenly Peace, Inc. – “Building a Better Future: Providing Beds for Kids in Need throughout San Antonio” - $2,500 – materials to construct 10 twin bed frames, mattresses, sheets, comforters and pillows for children aged 3-17 who are sleeping on the floor or in other uncomfortable conditions.  Supplies for 10 beds - (wood etc. - $1,090.40), mattresses ($1,000), sheets, pillows, comforters ($409.60)
  • The Children’s Shelter – “Nurse-Family Partnership’s ‘New Mommy’s Survival Kit’ - $5,000 – Kit items include maternity belly support belt, newborn car seat, portable baby pack and play, safe sleep swaddle, baby bottles, breast milk bags, breast milk pads, Haakaa breast pump, Babby pillows, nursing bras, lanolin nipple cream, postpartum absorbent pads.  Total per kit if all items are needed is $333.64 per mother.  15 complete kits could be provided
  • Visitation House Ministries, Inc. – “Essential Support for Single Mother Families Entering VHM Transitional Housing Program” - $3,000 – Groceries (2-3 month period only), household hygiene needs (bedding, toiletries, kitchenware, first-aid supplies to be determined on an individual basis by size and current situation of each new family) for single mothers and their children residing in 1/5 VHM apartments
